Short Review

Agonizing Urge was one of the works that integrated the event that originated the Group of Composers from Bahia: the 1996 Holy Week concert. It is the work of a newcomer who at the time was one of Ernst Widmer’s composition students in the former “Free Music Seminars” at the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA).

An instrumentation of winds and percussion makes up the musical environment for a text extracted from parts of the Bible.

In his analysis Pedro Kröger observes the piece from a structural point-of-view, focusing on the traces of “motivic geneology".
