Nude was one of the works that was part of the event that originated the Group of Composers from Bahia: the 1996 Holy Week concert. It is the work of a novice composer, who at the time was Ernst Widmer’s composition student in the former “Free Music Seminars” at the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA).

Written for choir, narrator and bass drum, Nude is based on the homonymous poem of French playwright Henri Ghéon. The distribution of the poem between choir and narrator, as well as the instrumentation, led to the analytical observation of the piece in a structural perspective of classical tragedy. In her analysis, Ilza Nogueira also observes how the juxtaposition of opposing and incongruent elements, especially the opposition between different harmonic genders (diatonicism, octatonism, chromaticism) is rendered effective in contrasts, coherence, form and vitality. She also shows how symmetry, contrasted with asymmetry, is an active structural principle in the work.
