Pedro Kröger - Introduçăo e Allegro

Short Review

Capa Volume 18

Introduction and Allegro by Pedro Kröger was originally composed for string quartet in July 1996. The version for chamber ensemble (August 1996) was distinguished with the 2nd Prize and “Prize of the Public” in the VII National Composition Competition promoted by the Federal University of Bahia. In his "analytical commentaries", the composer explains that one of his main concerns was to make a relatively unbalanced instrumental formation (picc., 2 fl., ob., cl.,fag., tr., trb., 2 perc., 2 vl., 1 vla., 2 vcl. e 1 cb.) sound “coherent and vigorous”. Besides describing the compositional work with parameters which respond for unity and coherence – formal organization, pitch-class set choice and motivic elaboration –, the author unveils influences from Ravel, Schoenberg and Rimsky-Korsakov in his orchestration procedures.
