Volume 01 Short Review Written in 1972, the "Ensaio a uma Didática da Música Contemporânea" ["Essay for a Didactic Approach of Contemporary Music"] was conceived for the author´s candidacy to the Full Professor position at the "Departamento de Composição, Literatura e Estruturação Musical da Escola de Música e Artes Cênicas da Universidade Federal da Bahia." [Department for Music Theory & Literature of the Music School of the Federal University of Bahia]. In his essay, the author intends to "offer subsidies for the re-orientation of music teaching and its promotion", outlining situations, starting points, routes and aims. One of the author´s statement serves as an epigraph to the essay, determining at the same time its organization into three sections: "Contemporaneity... it will not keep on being considered irrelevant or strange... If the learning process becomes a creative one". Widmer´s theoretic bases are Jean Piaget and Edgard Willems. In her critical commentaries, Alda Oliveira observes Widmer´s text under the light of more modern pedagogic theories.. As a "complement" for his essay, Widmer presents a didactic work for orchestra: Rumos Op. 72. This work is found in the series "Marcos Históricos da Composição Contemporânea na UFBA" [Historical Landmarks of Contemporary Composition at UFBA1], v. 16, with analytical commentaries by Ilza Nogueira.
